Established in 1997, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation focuses its efforts on three main areas of need: homelessness, indigent healthcare and children's programs of all types, including education and youth baseball field development. In addition, the Foundation has created strategic programs that address the needs of our community including veterans, police, teachers, and firefighters - just to name a few. To date, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation have made charitable contributions totaling more than $45 million to non-profit organizations from across Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation was established in 1997 before the D-backs ever played a Major League game. Since 2000, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has built or refurbished 38 youth baseball and softball fields across Arizona as part of the "Diamonds Back" Field Building Program representing a charitable investmentof more than $10 million. In partnership with APS and a charitable gift from individual players, the program has allowed children from across the state to play baseball and softball at quality facilities. The fields generally feature new lights, an electronic scoreboard, new fencing and backstops, new irrigation and new grass and dirt. Each year, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation awards deserving non-profit organizations with Program Grants and Grand Slam Awards. Program Grants are given statewide to non-profit organizations in the amounts of $1,000 to $5,000. The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has awarded 1,170 program grants totaling more than $5.1 million since 1998. The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation began awarding Grand Slam Award grants in 2002 to make a larger impact on community organizations by providing a grant in the amount of $15,000-$100,000. Since 2002, the D-backs have awarded 63 Grand Slam Awards totaling more than $5.2 million. All 501(c)3 non-profit organizations in Arizona are welcome to apply for funding. Funds raised by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation are done so through a variety of fundraising events such as Evening on the Diamond, D-backs Celebrity Golf Classic, D-backs Race Against Cancer, Mystery Ball, D-backs Authentics and the Foundation Yard Sale at FanFest.
The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation marquee fundraising event, Evening on the Diamond, has quickly become one of the top fundraising events in the Valley. Taking place on the diamond of Chase Field, the event features a red carpet reception, silent and live auctions, dinner, an awards presentation, live musical entertainment and more. Each Veteran's Day weekend, the Arizona Diamondbacks host the annual D-backs Celebrity Golf - A Salute to Veterans presented by Sanderson Ford. Since the tournament's inaugural event in 2011, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has donated more than $650,000 to non-profit organizations and programs that embrace and improve the lives of our Military heroes. Each spring, the Arizona Diamondbacks host the D-backs Race Against Cancer presented by the University of Arizona Cancer Center at St. Joseph's Hospital. The 5k race and 1 mile Banana Boat Family Fun Walk begins and ends at Chase Field, with participants winding their way through the streets of Downtown Phoenix and taking a victory lap around the Chase Field warning track. Since the first D-backs Race Against Cancer in 2013, the event has raised more than $825,000 to support Arizona non-profits that provide screening, treatment and support for those dealing with cancer. Support the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and receive an autographed baseball from one of your favorite Arizona Diamondbacks players. Mystery Ball events are hosted at Chase Field three times each season and all funds raised the events are used to support youth sports and education initiatives. During the three select Mystery Ball games, fans have the opportunity to make a donation to the Foundation and in exchange will receive a Mystery Ball box containing an autographed baseball signed by a current D-backs player or coach. The annual Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation Yard Sale takes place each year at SUBWAY® D-backs Fan Fest. The Foundation Yard Sale provides fans the opportunity to shop at discounted prices for autographed and game used memorabilia items from current and former D-backs players, promotional items, event t-shirts, ballpark signage and many other great D-backs items. The D-backs Give Back 50/50 Raffle, supported by Western Refining, is available at every D-backs home game. Tickets are available for $2 each, 3 for $5, 10 for $10 or 40 for $20 from roving sellers in the stands and at raffle kiosks located throughout the Chase Field concourse levels. The charitable half of the jackpot benefits the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation to support youth baseball field development and sports outreach across the state of Arizona. The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Paul Goldschmidt have teamed up to raise money to benefit Phoenix Children's Hospital through Goldy's Fund 4 Kids. Goldy's Fund 4 Kids supports programs that lift the spirits of children and their families at Phoenix Children's Hospital.
