Tigers players and coaches work with charitable organizations in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
The players contribute their time in various ways, including visiting with disadvantaged youth, recording public service announcements and acting as spokespersons for charities, participating in educational and recreational activities, appearing at community and charitable events, etc.
Each year, the Detroit Tigers and SportService share the holiday spirit by hosting teens currently living in the Michigan foster care system for an evening of holiday celebration and surprises. Recognizing that foster teens are often overlooked, the Detroit Tigers hope to give the teens the opportunity to enjoy an extra-special holiday season that they won't forget. Made possible by contributions from Tigers Pitcher Dontrelle Willis, Fairlane Town Center and Tigers front office staff, each teen was surprised with a $150 gift card to be used during a shopping spree at Fairlane Town Center. After enjoying a holiday meal at the exclusive Tiger Club, nearly 100 teens boarded chartered buses with Tigers Pitcher Nate Robertson and his wife, Kristin, Tigers Bullpen Coach Jeff Jones, and his wife, Paula and Detroit's favorite mascot PAWS to embark on the shopping extravaganza. From Game Boys to CDs and clothes to perfume, the teens purchased all the items on their wish lists as smiles graced their faces.
Tigers pitcher Zach Miner loves to strike out batters, so why not reward the Detroit Tigers Foundation and its effort to enhance children’s lives through the game of baseball every time he sends someone back to the dugout. Miner pledged a $100 donation to the Detroit Tigers Foundation for every strikeout he recorded during the 2008 season. The funds raised supported youth baseball opportunities for children with mental and/or physical challenges. On the season Miner struck out 62 batters. Thanks Zach!

During his visits, Curtis discussed the importance of reading, staying in school and character.
This season, in an effort to support the metro-Detroit community, Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman has partnered with the Detroit Tigers Foundation in a program called "Autographs for a Cause." Through this program, Jeremy will sign fans' baseball cards and photographs through the mail in exchange for a donation to the Detroit Tigers Foundation, the club's official charity. All of the funds collected through this program by Jeremy will be donated to The Miracle League of Michigan, a charitable organization that provides children with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball as a team member in an organized league.
