Grand Slam for Youth Baseball is a three-part program sponsored by Minute Maid, the Houston Astros generous naming rights partner at our own Minute Maid Park, and is designed to bring the benefits of our National Pastime to the young people of Greater Houston.
The Houston Astros and the makers of Minute Maid came together in 2002 and created Grand Slam for Youth Baseball, a program designed to bring the benefits of the National Pastime to the young people of Greater Houston. Grand Slam for Youth Baseball makes it easier for boys and girls to play, learn about and experience baseball, while fostering self-confidence, teamwork, respect for others and fun among youth in Houston. Information and applications related to Grand Slam for Youth Baseball Scholarships and the youth league run through the Houston Parks and Recreation Department can also be found at www.gsfyb.com.
Entering the 2013 season, Minute Maid and the Astros Foundation have donated more than $2.8 million of support to Houston area baseball and softball programs, with a special focus on at-risk youth.
Grand Slam for Youth Baseball is comprised of the following components:
The 2013 season will mark the 11th year Grand Slam for Youth Baseball has sponsored the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department's free youth baseball, softball and t-ball program for kids ages 4-18. GSFYB provides the t-shirts, caps and equipment for the program and sponsors a special event each year to celebrate the opening or closing of the season at the Astros Urban Youth Academy. More than 5,000 Houston-area boys and girls benefit from the program each year.
For more information about the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Youth Baseball Program, which usually runs from March through May, please call 713-865-4517 or 713-865-4512.
The Grand Slam for Youth Baseball Scholarship program was launched in 2005 to assist Houston-area high school senior boys and girls with college expenses. Each year, the Astros naming rights partner Minute Maid, through the Astros Foundation (formerly called Astros In Action Foundation), funds up to 25 individual $2,500 college scholarships each year. Since the program's inception, 151 scholarships have been awarded totaling $377,500.
Through GSFYB, the Astros and Minute Maid offer unique fundraising opportunities to help qualified 501(c)3 youth baseball and softball teams and leagues raise money for baseball/softball-related expenses. This piece of the GSFYB program has generated more than $275,000 in proceeds for Houston area leagues and teams.

The Houston Astros and the Astros Foundation are honored to partner with our naming rights partner at Minute Maid Park in opening the doors of opportunity and healthy choices to the children and teens of Greater Houston.
