Carlos Guillen tied the game in the eighth with a leadoff homer, but the Tigers fell in extras, 5-4, in the 2008 opener. Justin Verlander was sharp early, but exited without retiring a batter in the seventh. He limited KC to four hits but still gave up four runs.
