February 21, 1903 > Hall of Fame owner Tom Yawkey is born in Detroit, Michigan. Yawkey will purchase the Boston Red Sox in 1933 at the age of 30 and overturn the club's status as a perennial second-division doormat. Although the Sox will never win the big one during Yawkey's 44 years in charge, they will go to the World Series three times and develop Hall-of-Famers like Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski.
