Jim Leyland postgame interview
Detroit manager says Tigers need to swing the bat better
How tough is it to have a game like
this when it seems your pitching and defense,
which was such a strong point for you, has let
you guys down these three games?
JIM LEYLAND:
You said yesterday, you said Pudge
may be trying too hard. Are you worried that
there are several guys in that stage right now?
JIM LEYLAND:
Jim, earlier it looked like Carpenter
was having trouble throwing his breaking ball
for a strike. Are they not recognizing it out of
his hand or overanxious?
JIM LEYLAND:
In the fourth inning, was Inge's
decision to go home with that ground ball a
concession with how difficult it was going to be
to score runs off Carpenter?
JIM LEYLAND:
The first three games of the series
have been dominated by starting pitching.
With the rest of the guys going in the series, do
you expect this to continue throughout the
series?
JIM LEYLAND:
In the regular season when a team is
slumping you can do certain things lineup-wise
and stuff, can you do anything in the World
Series or is it just what it is?
JIM LEYLAND:
You had two outstanding defensive
plays by the Cardinals in the seventh inning, by
Pujols and by our right fielder. How did that
affect you?
JIM LEYLAND:
In a series like this, teams come in
1-1, how important is the third game? Is it sort
of a turning point in the series or not?
