Reds at the plate: Corey Patterson went 3-for-4 to raise his Grapefruit League batting average to .462 (6-for-13). Third baseman Andy Green had a pair of doubles off Yankees starter Phil Hughes in a game that was delayed for 21 minutes in the eighth inning by rain and cut short early in the bottom of the 10th.

Yankees at the plate: Alex Rodriguez clubbed a three-run homer, his third of the spring. Derek Jeter went 2-for-3, and Jason Lane contributed a two-run single.

Reds on the mound: Right-hander Matt Belisle gave up seven runs on eight hits and two walks in three innings. Kent Mercker pitched a scoreless inning that ended when the lefty induced Rodriguez to hit into a double play. Josh Roenicke kept his spring ERA at 0.00 with a perfect inning.

Yankees on the mound: Hughes, who entered the game without having allowed a Grapefruit League hit in five innings, was pulled with two outs in the third, ending a start that saw the young right-hander allow four runs on nine hits, including five doubles. Edwar Ramirez struck out four in 1 2/3 perfect innings. Jonathan Albaladejo retired all four batters he faced.

Grapefruit League record: Reds 9-8, Yankees 6-6.

Up next for the Reds: Cincinnati will travel to Fort Myers, Fla., on Saturday to take on Boston. Homer Bailey will start for the Reds and be followed by left-hander Bill Bray, right-hander Jared Burton and right-hander Todd Coffey. Lefty Jon Lester is the scheduled starter for the Red Sox in the 1:05 p.m. ET game.

Up next for the Yankees: New York will play split-squad games on Saturday, with right-hander Ian Kennedy facing Tampa Bay's Jeff Niemann in a 1:15 p.m. contest at Legends Field. It will be the first meeting between the two American League East teams since Wednesday's benches-clearing incident, which resulted in the suspension of three players. Another group of Yankees will head to Lakeland, Fla., for a 1:05 p.m. game against the Tigers. Joba Chamberlain will start for New York against Justin Verlander.
