Giants World Series clincher sets Postseason record for most social media comments
FOX Wins Night in Primetime; Game Four is Most Talked-About Telecast on Social Media
The San Francisco Giants' 10-inning, 4-3 win in Game Four to complete a sweep of the Detroit Tigers and win the 2012 World Series was the most talked-about show on television Sunday and capped a thrilling Postseason that set numerous records on social media based on data from Bluefin Labs, including:
- 1,202,706 social media comments for Game Four, making it the most talked-about MLB game in history (surpassing the historic Game Six of the 2011 World Series).
- 171,024 comments within five minutes after the final out, making the final out of the World Series the most talked-about moment in baseball since social media records have been kept (previous high was 97K for David Freese's 2011 Game Six walk-off home run).
- 10,671,781 total social media comments for the 2012 Postseason, more than double the total from last year (+131%).
On television, Game Four drew 15.5 million viewers and the World Series once again led FOX to a win in prime time, according to Nielsen data. FOX is projected to win three of the four nights in primetime on which World Series games aired. As is the case every year, the World Series ranks as a top-10 program in viewers and in all key demos - 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 - in the 4th quarter, the most competitive primetime landscape of the broadcast season."
In San Francisco, the game drew a 38.7 local rating, the highest in the market since Game 7 of the 2002 World Series. In addition, 64% of all TVs on in San Francisco were tuned to last night's game, a higher percentage than for any MLB game on record (dating back to the start of the Wild Card Era in 1995). In Detroit, the game drew a 37.9 local rating, best in that market for any MLB game since Game Two of the 2006 World Series.
