Texas Rangers & Mexico City Red Devils to play exhibition game
Thursday, March 28 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington
Nashville, Tennessee– The Texas Rangers today announced that the club will play the Mexico City Red Devils (Diablos Rojos del Mexico) of the Triple-A Mexican League in an exhibition game on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
This will mark the second consecutive year that the Rangers have played the Red Devils team in Arlington. Texas defeated Mexico City, 13-4 before a crowd of 30,829 on April 2, 2012. It was the first time that the Rangers had played a Mexican League team in Arlington.
“The Rangers are pleased to welcome the Mexico City Red Devils back to Arlington,” commented Rangers CEO and President Nolan Ryan. “We enjoyed having them at Rangers Ballpark last year and look forward to their visit in March.”
The exhibition, which will start at 7:05 p.m., will be one of three games the Rangers will play in Texas to conclude their 2013 spring training schedule. The club will play the San Diego Padres in the Big League Weekend series at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Friday (7:05) and Saturday (1:05), March 29-30 before opening the 2013 regular season in Houston against the Astros.
The Red Devils, who are managed by Miguel Ojeda, finished fourth in the league’s North Division with a 61-52 record in 2012. Mexico City was defeated by Monterrey in the first round of the playoff in four games. Diablos Rojos del Mexico have won 15 Mexican League championships in their history, the most of any club.
The teams made the announcement at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville. Red Devils Executive President Roberto Mansur, President/General Manager Jorge Alum, and Sports Manager Roberto Castelon; and Mexican League President Plinio Escalante made the announcement on behalf of Mexico City.
There will be special pre-game ceremonies prior to the game. Information on tickets for the game will be announced at a later date.
