Royals announce new ballpark amenities & exciting promotions for 2013
The Royals will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Kauffman Stadium as the club opens the home portion of the 2013 season on Monday, April 8 vs. the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m., and all fans will receive a 2013 Royals Magnetic Schedule courtesy of Sprint. Gates to the ballpark open at noon with lots of exciting events scheduled before the game, including a special pregame ceremony beginning at 2:30 p.m. During the pregame festivities, the Royals will recognize Billy Butler as the 2012 Silver Slugger™ Award winner at Designated Hitter in the American League and Alex Gordon will be presented with his second Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
PROMOTIONS & SPECIAL EVENTS: The 2013 promotional schedule includes a Billy Butler Silver Sluggger™ Bobblehead courtesy of Sprint (May 4), a Hot Dog Derby Bobblehead series highlighting Ketchup, Mustard and Relish presented by Hy-Vee and Farmland (May 25, June 22 and July 20), and a Retro Powder Blue Replica Jersey courtesy of FOX Sports Kansas City (June 8). Ladies are in luck this year with giveaways that include a Royals Pashmina Scarf presented by Diet Pepsi on Mother's Day (May 12) and a pink KC cap presented by the KC Chevy Dealers on Girls Night Out (June 7). In addition, the fan-favorite T-Shirt Tuesday promotion returns with designs featuring the I-70 rivalry during the Cardinals series presented by TEVA (May 28), a "Come to Play" design that highlights this season's marketing campaign presented by Sprint (June 4), a T-shirt celebrating new starting pitcher "Big Game" James Shields (June 25) and a special Green Halfway to St. Patty's Day T-shirt (September 17). Additional T-Shirt Tuesday dates are July 23 and August 13. All giveaways are for the first 10,000 fans.
Fans can get in the action this season through many of the Royals group promotions and events. The home schedule features events including Bark at the Park on Sunday, May 26, during which fans can bring their dog to the ballpark and watch a game while supporting Wayside Waifs. On June 6, ladies with a special Girls Night Out ticket will receive a leather fringe Royals keychain and enjoy a fashion show, chocolate fountains, and other activities in the Outfield Experience. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the American Heart Association Go Red for Women. Fans can also support their alma maters during University Nights sponsored by FOX Sports Kansas City and Rally House by purchasing a special ticket that includes a discounted seat and a limited edition KC Cap in their favorite team colors (first 750 fans with University Nights ticket on designated night). Student athletes and coaches will also be signing autographs on their school's respective day. In addition, the Royals will host the third annual Celebrity Classic Game featuring our hometown celebrities at the Blue KC Little K on Friday, July 19. ROYALS AUTHENTICS STORE OPENS FOR 2013: As previously announced, the Royals will open the new Royals Authentics store for the 2013 season. The store, located on the third base side of the Kia Diamond club on the Plaza/Field Level, will feature a wide selection of Major League Baseball authenticated items, including game-used bats, baseball, jerseys, batting gloves and more! The store will also carry collectibles autographed by current and past Royals players.
NEW AND RETURNING MENU FAVORITES: Royals concessionaire ARAMARK is enhancing the Kauffman Stadium experience for fans by providing a variety of new and traditional menu offerings. The new Farmland Grill, located behind section 240 on the Field/Plaza Level along the first base line, will debut in 2013 with savory menu items such as specialty hot dogs, loaded fries, pork nachos, pork wings, Bavarian hand-twisted pretzels and more.
Additional new menu items include chicken gyros - marinated chicken, bacon, spring mix, cucumbers, tomatoes and cucumber ranch dressing - and pork carnitas tacos made with braised pork, lettuce, queso fresco, pico de gallo and cilantro sour cream. Garlic fries and BBQ cheesesteaks are also new options for 2013. Fan favorites including the Dugout Doghouse, featuring eight uniquely-topped hot dogs, Topsy's Popcorn, Sheridan's Frozen Custard and the foot long Sheboygan brat will return for the upcoming season. The ARAMARK menu also features vegetarian options and family-friendly deals to satisfy all cravings.
ENHANCED STADIUM SOUND SYSTEM: Fans will enjoy an enhanced listening experience during visits to Kauffman Stadium in 2013 thanks to improvements including software upgrades, system reprogramming and the installation of a state-of-the-art digital console.
NEW COOL ZONE FEATURED AT HY-VEE GATE: As part of their extended partnership, the Royals and Hy-Vee will be adding the Hy-Vee Cool Zone at Gate B which will include live entertainment throughout the season and cooling stations to help fans beat the heat while at the ballpark this summer.
81 CHANCES TO WIN WITH THE 50/50 RAFFLE: Royals Charities will host a 50/50 Raffle, one of the foundation's most popular fundraisers, during each home game in 2013. Through the in-stadium fundraiser, sponsored by Edelman & Thompson, one winning raffle ticket will be selected each game with the winner taking home half of the evening's net proceeds. The other half will go to Royals Charities to support children, education, youth baseball and military efforts in and around the Kansas City area. Fans can purchase raffle tickets from Royals Charities staff around the ballpark or stop by the new Royals Charities headquarters located on the third base side of the Kia Diamond Club. The new, permanent location will feature information on a variety of Royals Charities events and activities.
MILITARY HONORED ALL SEASON LONG: The Royals and Budweiser salute a member of the military at each game throughout the 2013 season through the Our Heroes program. An active duty or retired member of the United States Armed Forces will be provided with four complimentary tickets, parking and recognized with a special in-game tribute. BATS CROWN CLUB GETS ADDED LUXURY: The BATS Crown Club, located directly behind home plate, has been upgraded with new in-stadium seats for the upcoming season. BATS Crown Club guests sit in the heart of the action and don't miss a pitch with in-seat service. Guests can also enjoy the private, all-inclusive lounge located behind the seating section.
ROYALS HALL OF FAME FEATURES SEASON-LONG EXHIBITS: The Royals Hall of Fame is hosting two season-long exhibits for fans to enjoy. Home Sweet Home - In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Kauffman Stadium, the Royals Hall of Fame will feature a retrospective of the ballpark and its place in history. The exhibit highlights the origins of the ballpark, which predate the franchise. The design of Royals Stadium and the Truman Sports Complex went against the grain in an era of multi-purpose facilities and became a trendsetter with lasting influence. Club 3,000 Exhibit - The Royals Hall of Fame is honored to work with the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum on a feature exhibit on Major League Baseball's exclusive "Club 3,000" members - players with 3,000 or more hits and pitchers with 3,000 or more strikeouts. Artifacts on display include the baseball from Stan Musial's 3,000th hit and the cap worn by Nolan Ryan when he recorded his 4,000th strikeout. Pieces of memorabilia from Willie Mays, George Brett, Pete Rose, Derek Jeter and others will also be on display.
AT THE BALLPARK APP GIVES FANS PERSONALIZED KAUFFMAN STADIUM EXPERIENCE: The Royals, together with MLB Advanced Media, L.P. (MLBAM), are offering a host of new features available with the Opening Day update to At The Ballpark, a free app for iPhone, iPod touch and Android smartphones allowing fans to check-in and manage their personal experiences at Kauffman Stadium. It joins expanded use of Passbook delivery for online ticket purchases. At The Ballpark offers mobile ticket purchases, check-in, sharable social media functionality, interactive maps, offers and rewards, favorite ballpark customization, directions and parking information.
Beginning on April 26, fans will be able to access the app to upgrade their seats through the At The Ballpark app in conjunction with Experience - the fan experience mobile technology company.
KIA DIAMOND CLUB TO WELCOME FANS IN 2013: As previously announced, Kia has been selected as the naming rights partner of the Diamond Club. To celebrate, every fan seated in the Kia Diamond Club on Opening Day will receive a blanket courtesy of Kia. The three-tiered venue features baseball-themed décor and floor-to-ceiling retractable windows, which provide guests with a relaxed, unobstructed view of the game. Seating options include the club lounge, stadium seats or a Kia Diamond Club Box.
