Dodgers alumni set for community caravan
Visits kick off Monday at Children's Hospital with Cey, Landreaux, Luke, Powell
LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers' 11th Pitching in the Community Caravan, presented by State Farm, will take place next Monday through Friday, with current and former players taking part.
Participation of current players will be limited to Jan. 31, with details still be finalized.
But the club announced the Monday-through-Thursday schedule for alumni players, which kicks off Monday with Ron Cey, Kenny Landreaux, Matt Luke and Dennis Powell visiting Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The visit will be in conjunction with a radiothon fundraiser on Clear Channel Radio co-hosted by Eric Karros.
On Tuesday, alumni Tommy Davis, "Sweet" Lou Johnson, Tim Leary and Derrel Thomas will visit Moffitt Elementary School/Playworks in Norwalk and host the McBride Park Teen Center at Dodger Stadium for ice skating.
On Wednesday, Davis, Johnson, Lee Lacy, Wes Parker and Bill Russell visit West Adams Preparatory High School's culinary class and have lunch at Los Angeles Universal Preschool after reading to students.
On Jan. 30, alumni Billy Ashley, Cey, Al Ferrara, Reggie Smith and Steve Yeager will visit Operation Gratitude in Van Nuys, a volunteer project that sends care packages to veterans, first responders, wounded warriors, caregivers and individually named U.S. servicemembers deployed overseas.
