Milwaukee's Scott Podsednik named National League Pepsi Rookie of the Month for August

Scott Podsednik of the Milwaukee Brewers, who batted .364 with three home runs and 16 RBI last month, was named National League Pepsi Rookie of the Month for August.

In 27 games played, Podsednik was 39-for-107 with 10 doubles and 22 runs scored. He led all NL rookies in doubles and tied for first with New York's Jose Reyes with 39 hits. He also added 12 stolen bases, which were the most of any National League player. Podsednik compiled a career-high 13-game hitting streak from August 15-28, coinciding with the Brewers' 10-game winning streak from August 19-28, the longest such streak since Milwaukee moved to the NL in 1998. The 27-year old outfielder currently leads all NL rookies in hits (147), runs (82), stolen bases (35), and walks (46).

Other rookies receiving votes were Mets teammates Reyes (.355, 4 HR, 9 RBI) and Jason Phillips (.292, 4 HR, 20 RBI); Robby Hammock (.385, 3 HR, 8 RBI) and Brandon Webb (1-3, 2.86 ERA) of the Diamondbacks, and Cincinnati's Ryan Wagner (2-0, 2.40 ERA).

Podsednik will receive a specially designed award to commemorate his Pepsi Rookie of the Month performance.
