Martinez, Nathan share American League Player of the Week honors
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
Cleveland Indians catcher Victor Martinez and Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Nathan have been named co-winners of the American League Player of the Week award for the period of May 10-16.

In five games last week, Martinez batted .429 (9-for-21) with six runs, four doubles, one home run, an AL-best 10 RBI, a .762 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base percentage. The 25-year-old backstop hit safely in all five games, including four multi-hit games. He went 4-for-9 with three runs and five RBI in his two games at Fenway Park, as the Indians took two of three from the Red Sox. Batting cleanup on Saturday, Martinez set a career-high with five RBI in a 9-7 win over Tampa Bay, stroking two doubles and a sacrifice fly. The Indians have won four games in a row.

Nathan (0.00 ERA, AL-best 4 saves) pitched four innings without allowing a hit or a walk and saved games on four consecutive days, facing the minimum each time. The right-hander struck out five and walked none as the Twins went 5-1 for the week. The first three of his four saves all came in one-run games. The first-year Twin has not allowed a run in his last 15 games and 18 of his 19 overall. He is second in the AL with 12 saves and is averaging 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings (19.2 IP, 26 SO).

Other candidates were Toronto's Frank Catalanotto (AL-best .448, 6 RBI) and Vernon Wells (.444, .531 OBP); Magglio Ordoñez (.429, 8 RBI) of the Chicago White Sox; Anaheim's Chone Figgins (.414, 1 HR, 8 RBI); Baltimore's Melvin Mora (.350, 3 HR, 5 RBI); Torii Hunter (.333, 3 HR, 4 RBI, AL-best .889 SLG) of the Twins; and Seattle's Dan Wilson (.409, 7 RBI).

Other pitchers on this week's ballot were a pair of left-handers, Mark Buehrle (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 13.2 IP) of the White Sox and Oakland's Mark Mulder (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 1 CG).

Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, is proud to award American League Players of the Week Victor Martinez and Joe Nathan with Tourneau luxury Swiss timepieces from its Safari collection.
