DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers today placed righthanded pitcher Troy Percival on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 8, with a partial tear of his right flexor pronator muscle mass. To replace Percival on the club's 25-man roster, the Tigers recalled the contract of righthanded pitcher Chris Spurling from Triple A Toledo.

Percival posted a 1-1 record with three saves and a 3.65 ERA (12.1IP/5ER) in 12 games with the Tigers. He is in his first season with the club after signing with the team as a free agent on November 17, 2004.

Spurling joins the Tigers after appearing in 12 games with the Mud Hens, posting a 2-1 record with one save and a 4.12 ERA (19.2IP/9ER). Spurling spent the entire 2004 season on the disabled list after undergoing ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery on March 4, 2004. He spent the entire 2003 season with the Tigers, posting a 1-3 record with three saves and a 4.68 ERA (77.0IP/40ER).
