After his first month as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Manny Ramirez has been named the Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month for August.

The right-handed hitting slugger batted .415 (44-for-106), with seven doubles, nine home runs, 25 RBI and 21 runs scored in August. He led the N.L. in batting average and ranked second in hits, tied for second in home runs and was third in RBI. The 36-year-old left fielder recorded a hit in 24 of 29 games played, including 12 multi-hit performances. Ramirez collected two hits on seven occasions, had a pair of three-hit games and three four-hit games during the month (August 3rd vs. Arizona, August 29th and August 30th at Arizona). His back-to-back four hit games marked the first time in his career that he accomplished that feat. The 12-time All-Star homered in consecutive games on August 2nd and 3rd vs. Arizona, and again on August 6th and 7th at St. Louis. On August 30th at Arizona, Ramirez recorded the 51st multi-home run game of his career with two home runs and also collected his 500th career double. The Santo Domingo native collected 10 multi-RBI contests during the month, including eight two-RBI games and two three-RBI performances. Ramirez is hitting .326 (155-for-476) on the season with 30 home runs and 97 RBI. Since being traded to the Dodgers, Ramirez is batting .414 (46-for-111) with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 31 games played. This marks the fifth monthly award of his career (May 1995 and April 1999 w/ CLE; April 2001 and September 2002 w/ BOS). Ramirez also won monthly honors in his first month with the Red Sox.

Other players receiving votes were Ty Wigginton (.379, 12 HR, 26 RBI) of the Houston Astros; Albert Pujols (.398, 8 HR, 22 RBI) of the St. Louis Cardinals; Mike Cameron (.360, 9 HR, 22 RBI) of the Milwaukee Brewers; Mark DeRosa (.378, 7 HR, 24 RBI) of the Chicago Cubs; and Martin Prado (.432, 32 H, 9 2B) of the Atlanta Braves.

For setting the highest definition of excellence, Sharp, the presenting sponsor of the National League Player of the Month Award, presents Manny Ramirez with a 52" AQUOS. Sharp AQUOS is the "Official High-Definition Television of Major League Baseball." Manny will also receive a specially designed trophy to mark his achievements.
