The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has acquired righthanded pitcher Brooks Brown from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for catcher James Skelton.

Brown started 26 games for Double A Mobile during the 2008 season, compiling a 6-15 record, 4.18 ERA (144.1IP/67ER) and 112 strikeouts to earn Southern League all-star honors. He started seven games for Phoenix in the Arizona Fall League following the season, posting a 2-3 record and fanning 19 batters in 25.2 innings pitched.

Selected with the 34th overall pick by the Diamondbacks in the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Brown has compiled a 16-24 record, 3.66 ERA (314.1IP/128ER) and 270 strikeouts in three professional seasons.

Brown's contract will be assigned to Double A Erie.

Skelton was selected by the Diamondbacks from the Tigers in the major league phase of the Rule 5 Draft on December 11, 2008, and following the trade he will remain with the Diamondbacks organization. He saw action with both Single A Lakeland and Double A Erie in 2008, hitting a combined .303 (90x297) with five home runs and 34 RBI in 87 games.
