Christensen completes Colon trade

Left-hander immediately designated for assignment

DETROIT -- The Tigers finalized their summer trade of Roman Colon on Tuesday, when the Royals sent Double-A left-hander Danny Christensen their way as the player to be named in return.

The 24-year-old Christensen went 3-15 with a 6.21 ERA this year in his first season for Double-A Wichita, allowing 173 hits and 56 walks over 140 2/3 innings. He owns a 10-38 record and 4.79 ERA in six Minor League seasons since the Royals drafted him in the fourth round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft. He has averaged 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings over his 116 career appearances.

The Tigers dealt Colon to Kansas City on July 13 after Colon was suspended for his involvement in a clubhouse fracas at Triple-A Toledo while on a rehab assignment in June. The fight left Mud Hens reliever Jason Karnuth with broken bones in his face and Colon with a bruised left shoulder.

Detroit immediately designated Christensen for assignment on Tuesday. If he isn't picked up, the Tigers will likely try to outright his contract to one of their Minor League affiliates.
