Hunter's hand bruised after getting hit by Betances

X-rays negative after plunking; veteran right fielder considered day to day

NEW YORK -- Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter left Tuesday's game against the Yankees in the ninth inning after being drilled in the left hand by a pitch from Dellin Betances.

Hunter, 39, stood in pain aside home plate with manager Brad Ausmus and team trainer Kevin Rand before he was removed from the game with a left hand contusion.

"I couldn't feel anything. … I thought it was broke," Hunter said.

Fortunately for the Tigers, X-rays came back negative. He is listed as day to day and will be re-evaluated Wednesday. He still could not flex his hand after the game and expected some swelling on Wednesday morning.

Ezequiel Carrera entered the game as a pinch-runner and remained in to play center field, while Rajai Davis moved from center field to left field and J.D. Martinez moved from left to right.
