|MLBPA/MLB News Release|
Prouty, 54, joined the MLBPA in 2008 after 22 years at UNITE HERE, an international union representing clothing, textile, laundry, hotel and restaurant workers, where he had served as general counsel since 2001. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College and Harvard Law School.
Prouty becomes just the fourth individual to hold the post of MLBPA general counsel in the 47-year history of the Union. (MLBPA general counsels: Richard Moss, 1966-77; Donald Fehr, 1977-2004; Michael Weiner, 2004-13)
"I am confident that Dave will excel in his new role and that the players will continue to receive the high level of legal representation they have come to expect from their union," said Weiner. "The experience gained while serving as general counsel for UNITE HERE prior to joining the MLBPA will serve Dave well in his new role."
"I am honored by the opportunity to serve the MLBPA membership as their general counsel," said Prouty. "It's quite a privilege to follow in the footsteps of Dick Moss, Don Fehr and Michael Weiner, and quite a challenge to strive to uphold the legacy of Marvin Miller and this great union. I look forward to doing my best to assist the players in the manner set forth by these impressive men."
