The Pirates Pierogies are an important part of in-game entertainment for all Pirates games at PNC Park.
Following the end of the 5th inning, the Pierogies take the field to run the 280-yard Pierogy Race.
The Pierogies also make various appearances in the community, ranging from parades to private functions and also non-profit events.
PITTSBURGH - Cheese Chester suffered a broken foot while competing in the July 23 Pierogy Race at PNC Park.
Chester was carted off the field after being examined by the Pirates medical staff and later placed on the disabled list. He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.
Taking Chester's place will be Potato Pete, who has not raced competitively since 2001.
