Coaching Career
Returns for his fourth season as a member of the Tigers coaching staff in 2009, his third as the clubs hitting coach...a
veteran of 29 years in professional baseball, he served as the Tigers bullpen coach in 2006 after being named to Jim
Leylands staff on October 11, 2005...Served as the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates for five seasons (2001-05) before joining the Tigers...served as a
coach for the National League squad at Major League Baseballs All-Star Game in 2003 at Chicagos U.S. Cellular
Field...Following his playing career, he began his coaching career as the Pirates roving minor league hitting instructor in 1996
...spent the next four seasons (1997-2000) as the clubs major league hitting coach...Managed Lancaster in the California Fall League following the 1999 season, leading the club to the leagues
championship...served as the manager for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League following the 2000 season until he

the New York Mets...saw action at the major league level with the Cincinnati Reds (1987-88), Chicago Cubs (1989-90)
and Pirates (1990-94)...Was a member of four division-winning clubs with the Cubs (1989) and Pirates (1990-92)...owns a .625 batting
average (10x16) in 11 games during his three appearances in the National League Championship Series...Graduated from Roosevelt High School in Indiana in 1977, where he was an all-state selection in baseball...played
baseball at Valparaiso University...Participated in the 1971 Little League World Series and earned the nickname Legendary Lloyd after hitting five home
runs in five swings and drawing five intentional walks for his Gary, IN team...as a pitcher in that same series, he fanned
12 batters in eight innings of the championship game against Tainan City, Taiwan -- was enshrined in the Peter J.
McGovern Little League Museums Hall of Excellence in Williamsport, PA on August 26, 2006...Actively participates with Play Baseball Detroit and Tigers Dreams Come True and participated in the Tigers Winter
Caravan...He and his wife Ingrid reside in Chesterton, IN during the off-season...the couple has two children, daughter Schenell
